Matt Burton is a Senior Consultant for Draper & Associates' Analytical & Management Services Division. Within this position Mr. Burton provides program management, project management, business systems assessment, process design & improvement, and analytical research and analysis. His current responsibilities include directing functional and technical teams on multiple projects involving business systems analysis and implementation, process re-engineering, and strategic and operational planning. In addition, Mr. Burton oversees Draper's BIM service offerings with specific focus on BIM 4D scheduling and BIM for FM.

EXPERIENCE

Mr. Burton has more than 12 years experience in project management, business process consulting and business development for large, multi-national organizations in both the private and public sectors. His experience includes full lifecycle project and program management services including:

  • Performing business process analysis, design and implementation aimed at streamlining organizational and operational efficiency
  • Procurememnt and implementation of industry-leading CMMS/CAFM, ERP and CRM software solutions
  • Designing and implementing custom financial and operational reports
  • Project schedule development, status reporting and maintenance
  • Conducting budget planning and management for capital improvement projects
  • Development of systems for contract file maintenance to meet federal regulatory standards
  • Creating scopes of work and preparation of solicitations and proposals for internal and client engagements
  • Conducting audit and risk assessment for internal business process, startegic market direction and business policies and procedures
  • Creation of customer retention solutions including business process assessment, customer profiling and service bundling strategy

He is currently on assignment at Auburn University where he is involved in establishing an organization to oversee functions relating to campus planning and space management . The engagement specifically involves establishing the strategic plan, operational framework, business system requirements and standards for academic and non-academic space for the new office. He also was in charge of the procurement and implementation of a CAFM system for the Office of Campus Planning & Space Management and is currently implementing other functions of software in a multi-phase engagement. In addition, he oversaw the needs analysis and implementation of a separate CMMS system for Auburn's Facilities Division, which focused on a wide array of funtionality and integration with Campus Planning's CAFM system.

He is also engaged at Spelman College where he has recently completed a business process reengineering for their Facilities Management and Services Division. As a result of identifying a need for an industry best practice CAFM system, Mr. Burton assisted in defining functional and technical requirements, cost estimations, RFP and scorecard creation, facilitated vendor presentations, and software evaluation. He is currently managing the CAFM software implementation where he is in charge of all time, cost and scope activities.

Recently, Mr. Burton was on a project team tasked with a review of Plant Operations within the Facilities Department at Kennesaw State University to determine if there were areas that needed improvement. Forty recommendations emerging from this review identified a broad range of actions designed to improve the image of Plant Operations and permit it to become truly responsive to the needs of the institution. He was involved with interviewing requiste staff from various functional areas and providing analysis and recommendations for organizational, operational and business systems improvements.

In addition, Mr. Burton recently completed a process reengineering engagement at the University of Alabama with a focus on purchasing, accounts payable, work order management, and billing for the Facilities Department, as well as a work order management process review for Spelman College 's department of Facilities Management and Services resulting in 27 recommendations.  Subsequently the college has asked D&A to provide implementation services for these recommendations. Mr. Burton was previously engaged at the Georgia Student Finance Commission, where he lead initiatives for the development of a customized application for managing scholarship and grant applications, focused on process optimization and systems integration.

Before joining Draper's Analytical & Management Services Division, Mr. Burton was a senior consultant for the firm's Capital Programs Division. While there, he acquired more than 3 years of experience in the affordable housing sector leading teams in initiatives involving contract administration, business process re-engineering, and web-based knowledge management solutions.

In addition to his involvement in external engagements, Mr. Burton has developed, implemented and managed several internal operational initiatives including:

  • Corporate recruiting manager for Draper & Associates responsible for staffing and retention of engineering, architect and business management professionals.
  • Project manager responsible for creating multiple operational systems for Capital Programs Division of Draper & Associates including employee performance reviews, new hire program, college outreach program and assisting the SVP in creating and maintaining divisional budget.
  • Founding member of Marketing Task Force for Draper & Associates aimed at centralizing the coordination of analysis, planning and implementation of business development, sales/marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Sales support lead responsible for creating service offerings for Technology Solutions Company's telecommunications business unit including proposals, technical scopes of work, project plans and proformas used to streamline the sales process.

Prior to joining Draper, Mr. Burton was employed as a senior consultant with Technology Solutions Company. Mr. Burton was involved in business process engineering and software implementations for Fortune 500 companies in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.
