In one of its many-faceted roles as the Planning and Program Management Consultants to the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), Draper & Associates provided extensive program management services to the Logistics Program. Specific accomplishments included the following:

  • Developed and managed a $41.8 million budget for warehousing, transporting, installing, removing and disposing of all of the assets and supplies needed to stage the 1996 Olympic Games. Included in this budget were the costs for the cleaning and waste management operations at the Olympic venues. The total forecasted expenditures for the Logistics program were slightly less than $41 million.
  • Oversaw the preparation of operational plans for the logistical support of several major non-competition venues including the Olympic Village at Georgia Tech and the Welcome Center at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport .

  • Contracted for and managed support services including architectural modification of facilities, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, specialized courier operations and transportation services.

  • Interfaced with multiple governmental agencies, including the United States Customs Service, the United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, etc., to coordinate import and export movements of athletes, equipment and supplies.

  • Developed operational policy documents for the Logistics program and communicated these policies to other ACOG programs, vendors and suppliers.

  • Developed methodology for monitoring outstanding Logistical issues and facilitating their resolution.

  • Developed program schedules used to monitor the status of the Logistics program's planning and operational activities.

  • Assisted in management of the process of employing the approximately one thousand staff members needed by the Logistics program to accomplish its mission.

  • Prepared reports for ACOG senior management, the International Olympic Committee and future Olympic organizing committees detailing the status of Olympic Games Logistical preparations.

  • Managed the movement of athletes and their luggage into and out of the Olympic Village.

  • Assisted with the return, sale and/or disposal of all assets and supplies accumulated to stage the 1996 Olympic Games.

  • Assisted with the close down and return of leased or loaned warehousing facilities to their rightful owners including negotiating financial settlements with the owners for damage, etc.

  • Negotiated financial settlements with suppliers of Logistics assets for damage, loss and the untimely return of provided items.

  • Managed a Games time staff of approximately fifty individuals, paid and volunteer, to accommodate all of the above activities.

  • Assisted the ACOG Games Support Programs of Accreditation, Logistics, Medical, Press Operations and Transportation in implementing the chosen planning process, including but not limited to development of work breakdown structures, functional delivery requirements, program resource requirements, management schedules, near term schedules and budgets.

  • Established project management controls necessary to evaluate and report the status of activities undertaken by the above mentioned programs.

  • Made presentations to and interfaced with ACOG management, including the chief operating officer, potential sponsors, suppliers and vendors, other ACOG programs and other support contractors.
