The Challenge

The Draper Approach

The Challenge

Draper & Associates were engaged to provide Program Management services for Carolina Manufacturing Services (CMS), one of the nation's leading consumer product coupon brokers. At the time, CMS had been upgrading its management information system in order to meet the increasing needs of its clients. This system served as the primary information link among retailers, clients and CMS. Therefore, the ability of the system to effectively and efficiently manage information was critical to the long-term success of CMS.

The Draper Approach

Draper & Associates were retained in April 1995 to provide scheduling services for the continued development and implementation of the new system. In addition to this task Draper & Associates were also responsible for scheduling the planning and implementation of three new supporting MIS products on a separate platform.

Draper & Associates were faced with several specific challenges:

  • Schedule the planning and phased implementation of the new system with the concurrent operation and phased close out of the old system without interrupting service to clients
  • Consolidate the planning and implementation efforts of cross-functional players: in-house project management team, a technology consultant, and the product management group
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the primary management information system, which has been underway for some time, and the developing supporting systems, which reside on a separate platform

Results Realized

As part of the overall scheduling efforts, Draper & Associates developed separate Overall Project Schedules for each management information system. Separate program update meetings were held for the primary system and the supporting systems. During these bi-weekly meetings, Near Term Schedules, the detailed-oriented, eight week schedules, were reviewed and updated. Issues identified during these meetings were assigned to planning team members and these responsibilities were documented for future review.
