Early Planning = Project Success
Our clients understand the positive impact engaging Draper & Associates early in a project can have on project success.
Typically, when a 3rd-party scheduling consultant is utilized on a construction project, they are engaged just prior to or after construction has begun. During the Pre-Construction Phase of a project, the Draper consultant can advise of potential time related risk conditions, long before the risk condition is recognized in a normal project. The earlier project risks are identified, the more likely those risks can be mitigated and the lower the costs of the mitigation.
Draper utilizes the Summary Project Schedule (SPS) to communicate the high-level project plan. Key features of the SPS format include:
- Typically presented in a weekly time-scaled network logic diagram
- CPM format that illustrates multiple independent paths to completion
- Typically presented on one 11×17 sheet of paper
- Graphical format for ease of comprehension for all stakeholders including executives, owners, subcontractors and financial partners.
- Allows Project Team to quickly conduct “what if” analysis and multiple versions for alternate strategies.
As planning progresses, the SPS serves as the roadmap for the development of the Overall Project Schedule (OPS). As design is refined and key subcontractors are engaged, the assumptions within the SPS are validated allowing for the detailed planning associated with the OPS development.
The OPS is generally the primary tool for communicating with subconsultants and is more aggressive to ensure that the unknowns do not impact the ability to achieve the goals defined in the SPS.
In many cases, the SPS is maintained throughout the life of a project to serve as the Owner’s Schedule. The Draper consultant will typically status the Owner’s Schedule on a monthly basis to efficiently and effectively allow the client to communicate project status with the Owner.
At Draper, we believe that the earlier our consultants are involved in a project, the more value they can add to the project. We look forward to working with you and your team to make your project a success.
